Handyman installs in Sherman Oaks

We are Square Corner Handymen, a handyman in Sherman Oaks for TV mounting, shelves, mirrors, furniture anchoring and curtain rods, at one flat price per install. Tell us what is going up and what kind of wall it is going on, and we confirm the flat price and keep the day for you.

Free to quote. Same-week days, Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm.

The price for each install comes from our install board, and two things set it, the install itself and the wall behind it.

  • A price that holds. We confirm it in writing before we hold your day, and it does not change on the day.
  • The right anchors. We bring the anchors that suit your wall, and you supply the bracket, shelf or rod.
  • Level before we pack up. You watch the level sit on the piece with the bubble in the middle.
  • Free quotes and same-week days. Quotes are free, and days are same-week from Monday to Saturday.
  • A quick answer. We confirm your day by text within two hours, between 7am and 7pm.

What we install in Sherman Oaks

  • TV mounting, whether it is the big screen in the living room or a smaller one coming off the bedroom dresser.
  • Picture hanging and mirrors, from a row of frames down the hallway to a mirror that no nail would hold.
  • Floating shelves. We fix the bracket into the wall first, and then the shelf slides on over it.
  • Furniture anchoring, so a bookcase or a tall dresser cannot tip over in an earthquake.
  • Curtain rod installation and blinds. On a wide slider we put a third bracket in the middle so the rod does not sag.
  • Furniture assembly for the flat-pack that is still in its box.

Which column your wall is in

The board has a column for each kind of wall, and Sherman Oaks has all four of them, sometimes in the same house. This is a rough guide to which one you probably have.

  • Drywall. Most places built from the sixties on, and any room that has been remodeled. We put the bracket on lag screws, into two studs, and it is the lowest price on the board.
  • Plaster. The ranch houses on the flat side of Ventura, built after the war, often have a thin plaster skim over rock lath. It takes longer lags through to the studs, and it is one step up from drywall.
  • Brick or concrete. In a lot of the older houses this is the fireplace wall, and some of the condo buildings are poured concrete. We set sleeve anchors into the masonry itself, and it is the highest price on the board.
  • Metal studs. You find these in some of the newer apartment and condo buildings around Sepulveda. A lag screw has nothing to grip in steel, so we use heavy toggles through it instead, and it is priced as plaster.

If you cannot tell what you have, that is fine. Say so when you ask for a day, and we price the install for each wall it might be and settle it with a quick check at the door before anything is drilled.

The 1994 earthquake is one reason it is hard to tell in Sherman Oaks, because a lot of damaged plaster came down and went back up as drywall, so an older house does not always have older walls.

Moving into a place off Ventura

People moving to Sherman Oaks often want the TV, the mirror, the shelves and the curtains all up on the first weekend, and we book that as one install day.

  • One total. Each piece keeps its own board price, and we add those up into one total.
  • Your order. We work through the rooms in whatever order you like, and we can fit five or six installs into one morning.
  • Condo buildings along Riverside Drive. Tell us whether there is a freight elevator to book or set hours for work in the building, and we plan the day around them.
  • Shared walls. In a building with shared walls, we put the drilling in the middle of a weekday morning.
  • Places in the hills. Let us know about any stairs or a steep driveway, so we know how a big screen is getting carried in.
  • Moving out too. If you are leaving an apartment at the same time, we can take the old mounts off the walls there and patch the holes.

Repairs we can do on the same visit

Repairs make up the rest of our handyman services, and each one gets a written quote. Book one on its own, or add it to an install day.

  • Drywall repair, for the anchor holes and doorknob dents. A lot of Valley apartments have an orange peel texture, so we match it and check the patch in side light before we call it done.
  • Door repair, when a door sticks or will not latch. We rehang it square in the frame so it closes cleanly and the latch catches again.
  • Window screen replacement, and patio screen doors put back on their track. The mesh on the west side of a house takes the most sun out here.
  • Caulking, faucets and ceiling fans. We caulk around tubs and showers, do like-for-like faucet swaps, and hang ceiling fans on a box that is made to carry one.

Questions people ask before they book

Do you cover the whole of Sherman Oaks?

Yes, both north and south of Ventura and up in the hills. If you typed handyman near me from Sherman Oaks and found us, you are inside our San Fernando Valley area, and those install days take in Studio City, Encino and Van Nuys too, same-week, Monday to Saturday.

Is the price higher in the hills?

No. The install and the wall set the price on the board, and that is the whole price wherever you live in Sherman Oaks. If we find something the board does not cover, you hear about it before the first hole and you can say no.

What about a TV above a stone fireplace?

Usually yes, as long as there is solid masonry behind the stone. Stacked stone is a different job that the board does not cover, so we would want to see it first and give you a separate price. Let us know if you light the fireplace, because the heat changes where the screen should sit.

Do I need to buy the bracket?

Yes. What you pay for is our labor and the anchors that suit your wall, and the bracket, shelf or rod is yours to buy. If you tell us the TV model first, we can say whether the bracket you have in mind will work on your wall.

Is there anything you do not do?

New wiring is an electrician's job, and a re-pipe is a plumber's. If that is what your job turns out to need, we tell you on the first call so you are not waiting on us.
