TVs we put up

  • A new TV and its bracket, both still in the boxes.
  • A screen on a dresser, taking up the whole top of it.
  • An old bracket that has dropped at one corner, so the picture leans.
  • A TV moving from one wall to another after the room changes.
  • A screen over a fireplace, on brick or on drywall.

The anchor follows the wall

A TV is priced by the wall it goes on, because the wall decides the anchor. On drywall the bracket goes into the studs. On plaster we use longer lags that reach the studs through the plaster. Brick and concrete take sleeve anchors, and steel studs take heavy toggles, because steel gives a lag screw no wood to grip.

When your wall calls for a different anchor, the screws packed with the mount stay in the box.

Cables and power

On drywall we can often hide the cables inside the wall. That's quoted on its own once we've seen what's in the way. On plaster or brick they run in the cable cover, which is already in the price.

A new power outlet behind the TV is work for a licensed electrician, and we say so on the first call.

How a TV goes up

  1. You pick the height. We hold a mark where you'll sit and watch, and nothing is drilled until you're happy with it.
  2. We check the wall against the board. If the wall is different from the one you named, that wall's board price applies, and you hear it before we drill.
  3. The bracket goes on. Into the studs, or onto the anchor made for brick or steel, with the level on it as each screw goes in.
  4. The TV goes on and gets a pull. We load it with you watching. Then the level goes on top, and off center means it comes down and goes back up.
  5. Cables into the cover, floor swept. The box and the packaging leave with us.

What the price depends on

  • Your wall. It's one of the four columns on the board: drywall, plaster, brick or concrete, or metal studs.
  • The bracket. You supply it. Tell us the TV model and we'll say whether the one you're looking at suits the wall. If you'd rather we bring one, it goes on the quote before you book.
  • Cables inside the wall. Quoted on their own, after we see the wall.
  • Anything the board doesn't cover, such as tile over the wall or a mount that hangs from the ceiling. You hear the extra before any drilling, and you can say no.

A second TV, or a mirror in the hall, can join the same visit at its own board price.

TV mounting questions

Can you mount a TV over a fireplace?

Usually, yes. On brick the bracket goes on sleeve anchors set in the brick, at the board's brick price. Over a drywall chimney breast we find the studs first. Mention the fireplace in your request so the right anchors come with us.

What if the studs aren't where the TV should be?

Many brackets let the TV slide a few inches along the plate, so the screen sits centered while the plate catches the studs. If that still isn't enough, we mark the closest position that works, and you approve it before anything is drilled.

Will you remove the old mount?

Yes, on the same visit. Filling and texturing the old holes is a drywall repair, quoted with the mount.

Can you hang a TV from the ceiling?

Yes, quoted on its own. A ceiling mount isn't on the board, so the price comes once we know what's above the ceiling, and before any drilling.
